We have finally learned who the newest President of Nintendo Co. Ltd. is/will be, and he is none other than Tatsumi Kimishima. But Kimishima-san’s name may not be one that the majority of fans are familiar with. So, who exactly is Tatsumi Kimishima?!
Well, Kimishima-san is a gentleman who began his corporate career with the Sanwa Bank of Japan, where he worked for 27 years. While with the bank, he worked out of several offices around the world, which were in the United States, Central America and the Caribbean.
He then “joined” the gaming world in 2000 when he was appointed as Chief Financial Officer of the Pokémon Company. One year later, he moved to the post of Chief Executive Officer of Pokémon USA.
In 2002, he was once again promoted, but this time as the newest President of Nintendo of America, following the retirement of Minoru Arakawa, after only being in the post for one year. Kimishima-san held the post of President of NOA for 4 years until he was promoted once again to CEO and Chairman of the Board of NOA. That is when Reggie Fils-Aime was appointed to serve as President of NOA.
That gives us a glimpse of who Kimishima-san is, but only a glimpse. Many who know him more personally have described him as very soft and friendly.
But just as important as that, we as fans are eager to know just how he sees his role impacting our live through gaming. Shortly after being named the company’s 5th President, Kimishima-san spoke with The Nikkei.
Kimishima-san later revealed in The Nikkei a few other very interesting details about his new appointment.
One thing that The Nikkei article points out about Kimishima-san is his honesty and most Nintendo fans will probably like his fresh take on many things going forward for the company.
So, with all of that being said, we can see that although Kimishima-san is obviously not Iwata-san, he certainly is not expected to be making any grand-sweeping changes regarding the direction that Iwata-san’s vision is/was taking Nintendo. At the same time, he is not content with being a place holder, either. Just from the small amount of information that he has given so far, we know that he is looking to expand the business beyond its current projected destination. I am excited to see where my favorite gaming company will be even in a year from now. There are some amazing things that are on the horizon that we already know about and so many more that we are completely unaware of, and I am sure will be ecstatic to see come about!
How do you feel about the new President of Nintendo? Do you expect any big things to come about, in spite of what has been expressed so far? Many analysts are calling this appointment by the Board a “safe” choice; do you agree with them after finding out more about it? Do you think it was a good move? Let me know in the comments section below. I look forward to hearing from you.
As always, gaming is meant to be fun, so keep gaming!!
