Nintendo has announced that the Nintendo World Store in New York City will be undergoing a massive makeover culminating in the re-branding of the store. This change is coming in the face of what appears to be a reawakening of Nintendo as a whole worldwide. 2016 is looking to be a very good year for Nintendo and their fans, alike.
On Jan. 19, the iconic Nintendo World store in Rockefeller Plaza in New York will temporarily close its doors for a major renovation. When the store reopens on Feb. 19, it will do so with a new look and a new feel. The powered-up overhaul will include an updated interior design, new Wii U and Nintendo 3DS demo units, a 15-foot gaming screen and more fun elements and surprises. In addition, a large bronze coin installed at the store entrance will display the store’s tagline: “Where everyone comes to play.”
When the store reopens it will be re-branded as Nintendo NY, and the weekend of reopening, the store will host various activities including giveaways and appearances by Mario and Luigi. There will also be exclusive souvenirs available for purchase on the weekend, as well. In addition there will also be an opportunity for fans to try out some new and upcoming Wii U and 3DS games.
“Nintendo is constantly evolving its experiences for fans,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing. “The new Nintendo NY store is a must-see location for anyone that has a memory of Nintendo, or who wants to see what Nintendo has in store for the future.”
Nintendo has said on many occasions that this is a time of transition and transformation for the company, and there is plenty of evidence to support that. For true Nintendo fans, many of the things we are seeing and even hearing about (officially) are all reasons to be even more excited about our company. This new look for the Nintendo NY store is simply another notch in the belt of transformation.
How do you think this makeover will affect customer experiences when they visit? Have you ever been to the Nintendo World Store? Will you visit the Nintendo NY store when it reopens? Reopening weekend?
As always, gaming is meant to be fun, so keep gaming!!
