3DS Nintendo Direct Has Been Announced

Nintendo has finally announced the next Nintendo Direct, and it is coming quickly. For the past several months, Nintendo fans have been (im)patiently waiting for new…any news, from our favorite gaming company. With very little real news coming out of the company at the moment, in anticipation of the NeXt dedicated gaming device, there has been an palpable amount of angst for real information for quite some time.

This Nintendo Direct will give fans a little bit of that relief, although there will be some who argue that the company is not doing enough of what the fans really want…and that’s reveal NX. In all of its splendor and glory, reveal the NX! For everything that is essential to your gaming life, Nintendo, please reveal the NX! However, this is not that, and for all intents and purposes, it really doesn’t even need to be!

Nintendo is a company that has existed in the video game market for several decades now, and because of that, they have a lot of key targets to hit to please not only their fans, but also their shareholders. As fans, we feel like as long as Nintendo appeases us, they are golden. That couldn’t be further from the truth, however, as on many occasions, the company has listened to the fans on certain issues only to be disappointed. Now, there have been missteps, don’t get me wrong, but there have been a lot of brilliant moves that no one outside of the company saw coming.

So, let’s enjoy the Direct that Nintendo is bringing us, and (im)patiently wait just a little while longer for the reveal of the newest Nintendo hardware. Afterall, we still have to wait for it to release after that…

What are you looking forward to seeing during Thursday’s 3DS Nintendo Direct? Do you already own a 3DS? What announcement would cause you to go ahead and pick one up?

Mario Closes Out the Olympics

As you may have heard by now, Super Mario made a cameo appearance in Rio de Janeiro for the closing ceremony of the 2016 Olympic games. In the handover video for the games, (as the games will be hosted by Japan in Tokyo in 2020) the Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe, made his entrance to the stadium via a Super Mario Bros. warp pipe.

The video that played prior to his entrance featured many iconic characters from Japanese culture, and Nintendo’s very own, Mario had a starring role, as the Prime Minister seemed to transform into him in order to arrive in Rio in time.

The video can be seen here:

This quick video goes a long way to introduce the games to the country of Japan, and to re-introduce the world to the uniqueness of the culture.

What did you like best about this video? Did you expect that Mario would play a role in the Olympics beyond racing Sonic? How else do you think Nintendo will play a role in the games?

Let’s Take it Back – Friday Fun!

Friday Fun has been missing for a few weeks now, and what better way to bring it back than with a throwback to the days of Howard & Nester!? Recently, it was discovered that many of the first few years of issues of the iconic publication, Nintendo Power. Archive.org has the first 145 issues (first 13 years) of the magazine available to view online, for free.

I have mentioned before is this blog that I grew up subscribing to, and reading Nintendo Power early on in my gaming life. Nintendo Power was easily my favorite piece of mail that I would get every single month. For the first 3 or so years of its existence, I never missed an issue coming to my home; the poster inserts lined my bedroom walls, the game guides lined my floor during play-throughs, and the comics, like below, kept me laughing!

This is the very first Howard & Nester comic that was published in the magazine. Enjoy, and look forward to more, next week…
