Chapter 3 – Squid Sisters Stories

The Squid Research Lab continues to dive deep into the story behind the Squid Sisters and what they have been up to since the last Splatfest several months ago. Splatoon 2 will be releasing globally soon, and Nintendo is doing a lot to make sure the promotion is as highly effective as possible. As you may be well aware, Callie and Marie were very present in the first Splatoon game, and they have been just as absent in the promotion to this point leading to the upcoming Splatoon 2. These stories are serving the purpose of giving more in-depth lore to the franchise, as well as helping to promote the game in another unique manner, that falls squarely in line with the personality of the IP.

If you missed Chapter 1 and/or Chapter 2, be sure to check them out. Otherwise, enjoy:

Squid Sisters Stories - Chapter 3

I am really enjoying everything that Nintendo is doing right now to make sure the word is out about the company’s newest game console, the Nintendo Switch. From the steady roll-out of new and incredible content to the ways in which advertisement has been a main focus, everything has been at peak quality. The more they continue to follow that model, the more they will be able to advance the momentum that they are experiencing right now. Be sure to stay tuned for more as it becomes available.

Chapter 1 – Squid Sisters Stories

Last week, the Squid Research Lab released some Top Secret documents that hinted at the reason behind the absence of the Squid Sisters, Callie and Marie, during the recent promotional footage of Nintendo’s upcoming Splatoon 2. The singing duo were the mainstays for the Inkling World in Splatoon, and now we are starting to get some insights into their disappearance.

For the next few weeks, we will be finding out more and more information as it becomes available, and Thursday evening saw the release of the first chapter in The Squid Sisters Stories. It will be interesting to see how we will get more of the lore behind this incredible franchise. Below is Chapter 1:

Squid Sisters Stories - Chapter 1

Nintendo has done an amazing job continuing to build upon the fledgling Splatoon franchise, with constant support, additional content, various events, and now deeper story lines. The Squid Sisters Stories truly has the potential to go much further than giving a backstory on the absence of Callie and Marie, too. That is what makes what the company is doing that much more incredible because there is potential for supporting manga, anime, and more. We will have to wait and see.

What more do you think we will see from these stories? How are you enjoying them? Be sure to stay tuned for more as more becomes available.

The Nintendo Milk Farm Challenge – Friday Fun

In a recent promotional event, Nintendo of America took to the Billings Farm & Museum to take on real-life farmers in a 1-2-Switch challenge. The challenge pitted gamers against farmers to see who would fair best in the Milk game in the new Nintendo Switch exclusive 1-2-Switch.

Below are some of the photos that were taken at the event.

Again, it is wonderful to see how committed Nintendo is to their new IP, and the Nintendo Switch, which is greatly benefiting from the focused efforts. Currently the Nintendo Switch is continuing to see very strong sales and high demand globally, and it’s not even peak selling season for consumer electronics in any region. Imagine the results of this momentum once maintained throughout the remainder of the year! Nintendo is really ready to bring fun into a year that truly needs it.

Have you gotten to play 1-2-Switch, yet? Do you own it? What are your thoughts on the game?

A Zelda Super Fan Gets Something Special

Nintendo recently allowed the creative minds at Super Fan Builds to surprise a Legend of Zelda fan with a one-of-a-kind, custom-built Zelda-inspired pool table. It was very interesting to watch as the designers created the unique piece that will be sure to provide countless hours of enjoyment for Super-Fan Bryan and his friends.

Super-fan Bryan has been a fan of The Legend of Zelda™ since…forever! The game came out the same year that he was born which means he’s been a fan for almost 30 years now. In this episode of Super-Fan Builds, Bryan receives a very unique build – a pool table designed with elements from the legendary game. Not only can Bryan share this build with his friends, but he can enjoy his fandom in a whole new way!

Even beyond the fascinating designs and accents that were provided for the table, I think the most intriguing part of the build was the Master Sword cue sticks. How can you go wrong when you have those in hand!

What did you like best about what you saw in the video? Would you like to have a custom table built for you? Which Nintendo franchise would you prefer, if not Zelda?

Having a Little Fun With It

It’s actually been a while since Friday Fun shared some NFL goodness, but New York Giants WR, Odell Beckham, Jr. sure brought it back nicely this past weekend. On Sunday, the wide receiver donned a unique and impressive pair of cleats during the Giants’ game against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.

Already sporting several items pink in the month of October, in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, NFL players league-wide have many splashes of the color throughout their uniforms. Beckham went just a bit further, showing his love for our favorite pink puffball character, Kirby.

Interestingly, we know that Nintendo has several licensing deals with their IP, but as far as I am aware, the only major shoe deal is with Vans. These Nike cleats, however, are really very cool, and it’s great to see that Kirby’s abilities may well have sucked the life force back into Beckham’s season. The wide receiver had an astounding career-high 222-yards receiving, and 2 touchdowns, one of which was the game-winning touchdown catch of 75 yards.

Going through and watching the highlights for his game, his biggest plays seemed to come in the second half of the game, during which time, Odell had changed into the Kirby cleats!

Do you like when players who express their individuality show their love of Nintendo? Do you think Kirby had any effect of Beckham’s gameplay in the second half of Sunday’s game? Do you think we will see more Nintendo cleats from Beckham or any other players this season?

Let’s Take it Back – Friday Fun!

Friday Fun has been missing for a few weeks now, and what better way to bring it back than with a throwback to the days of Howard & Nester!? Recently, it was discovered that many of the first few years of issues of the iconic publication, Nintendo Power. Archive.org has the first 145 issues (first 13 years) of the magazine available to view online, for free.

I have mentioned before is this blog that I grew up subscribing to, and reading Nintendo Power early on in my gaming life. Nintendo Power was easily my favorite piece of mail that I would get every single month. For the first 3 or so years of its existence, I never missed an issue coming to my home; the poster inserts lined my bedroom walls, the game guides lined my floor during play-throughs, and the comics, like below, kept me laughing!

This is the very first Howard & Nester comic that was published in the magazine. Enjoy, and look forward to more, next week…

Howard & Nester was a wonderful way for fans to get to know more tips and tricks regarding the games we played, as they came out, in a fun and comical way.

Were you ever a subscriber to Nintendo Power during its run? What were some of your favorite features of the magazine?

I enjoy sharing the Friday Fun posts with everyone. Sometimes I don’t have a lot of source material to share with you all, however, so feel free to offer suggestions of things that I can share, as well. Everything does not have to be comics, so keep that in mind, too.
