Chapter 3 – Squid Sisters Stories

The Squid Research Lab continues to dive deep into the story behind the Squid Sisters and what they have been up to since the last Splatfest several months ago. Splatoon 2 will be releasing globally soon, and Nintendo is doing a lot to make sure the promotion is as highly effective as possible. As you may be well aware, Callie and Marie were very present in the first Splatoon game, and they have been just as absent in the promotion to this point leading to the upcoming Splatoon 2. These stories are serving the purpose of giving more in-depth lore to the franchise, as well as helping to promote the game in another unique manner, that falls squarely in line with the personality of the IP.

If you missed Chapter 1 and/or Chapter 2, be sure to check them out. Otherwise, enjoy:

Squid Sisters Stories - Chapter 3

I am really enjoying everything that Nintendo is doing right now to make sure the word is out about the company’s newest game console, the Nintendo Switch. From the steady roll-out of new and incredible content to the ways in which advertisement has been a main focus, everything has been at peak quality. The more they continue to follow that model, the more they will be able to advance the momentum that they are experiencing right now. Be sure to stay tuned for more as it becomes available.

Chapter 2 – Squid Sisters Stories

The Squid Research Lab has released the second chapter of the Squid Sisters Stories, and it is shedding more light on the situation between Callie and Marie. These two busy entertainers are dealing with the demands of rising popularity, and trying to maintain their relationship all at the same time.

If you have not seen Chapter 1, be sure to take a look at that, and enjoy Chapter 2, below:

This story is getting more and more interesting the deeper we get into it. The emotional account of Marie in this entry is painting a picture that really illustrates the amount of lore behind the Splatoon franchise that has been absent, but also can truly be filled in going forward. I am excited to see what comes next, and be sure to stay tuned for more as that story continues.

Chapter 1 – Squid Sisters Stories

Last week, the Squid Research Lab released some Top Secret documents that hinted at the reason behind the absence of the Squid Sisters, Callie and Marie, during the recent promotional footage of Nintendo’s upcoming Splatoon 2. The singing duo were the mainstays for the Inkling World in Splatoon, and now we are starting to get some insights into their disappearance.

For the next few weeks, we will be finding out more and more information as it becomes available, and Thursday evening saw the release of the first chapter in The Squid Sisters Stories. It will be interesting to see how we will get more of the lore behind this incredible franchise. Below is Chapter 1:

Squid Sisters Stories - Chapter 1

Nintendo has done an amazing job continuing to build upon the fledgling Splatoon franchise, with constant support, additional content, various events, and now deeper story lines. The Squid Sisters Stories truly has the potential to go much further than giving a backstory on the absence of Callie and Marie, too. That is what makes what the company is doing that much more incredible because there is potential for supporting manga, anime, and more. We will have to wait and see.

What more do you think we will see from these stories? How are you enjoying them? Be sure to stay tuned for more as more becomes available.

What Happened to Callie and Marie?

The full promotion for the upcoming Splatoon 2 is well underway, and the Squid Research Lab is continually shedding light on the newest game in the franchise. Two of the first game’s staples were the Squid Sisters, Callie and Marie, but they have been conspicuously absent from the new game’s showings, so far.

It now seems there is a lot more to the story than their simple absence. Though not fully revealed, the Squid Sisters seem to have had a “falling out” after the final Splatfest for the first game which occurred several months ago.

I look forward to more unveiling of the story behind their non-participation in the coming weeks, leading to the release of Splatoon 2. Be sure to stay tuned as I intend to keep you all updated on the unfolding story as it is shared.

Did you compete in the last Splatfest for Splatoon, and were you on the winning team? Are you excited to experience other music artists from the Inking world? What do you think happened to the sisters?

Splatoon 2 is Going to Be Amazing!!

Last Wednesday’s Nintendo Direct gave Nintendo fans a brand new glimpse into the world of Splatoon 2, as we were treated to loads of great information. Over the past few weeks, we have been getting more and more details about the newest iteration in the Splatoon franchise, and the Nintendo Direct offered up even more.

tumblr_inline_oof8sltyk91t4m0j9_1280The Direct came with the introduction of the newest mode in the franchise, Salmon Run. This new mode is an online multiplayer (for 4 teammates) mode akin to a “horde mode”. Salmon Run looks like a lot of fun, and I am really looking forward to spending a lot of time with it and any other new aspects of Splatoon 2.

There was also the newly announced amiibo compatibility that will be a part of Splatoon 2. Along with new abilities, Nintendo announced the arrival of three more franchise amiibo, bringing the total number of amiibo that will be compatible with Splatoon 2 to eight (Phase 1 Inkling Boy/Girl, Inkling Squid, Callie, Marie, and now Phase 2 Inkling Boy/Girl, and Inkling Squid).

The first game arrived, and it was a very tumblr_inline_oof8skggpd1t4m0j9_1280successful “experiment” by the company, taking a chance on a new idea, brought to life by a younger team who were allowed to create a fantastic gaming experience. Now, we will see what experience, and two years of creative thinking will afford Nintendo Switch owners the opportunity to experience.

During the latter portion of the life of the Wii U, Nintendo was forced to rely on their ingenuity and desire to succeed. That response by the company is why, by many accounts, you should never “count out Nintendo”. When most people have predicted their demise over and over again, they continually surprise people with their resiliency. Having the ability to thrive at the very time that many don’t expect you to survive is the mark of excellence. The Splatoon franchise was born out of that time, just like many other times in the company’s history. My advice…stay tuned!

The April 12th Nintendo Direct

c9pwjhpvoaexbnmAnnounced two days in advance, Nintendo aired their newest Nintendo Direct presentation on Wednesday evening, and it primarily focused on two upcoming Nintendo Switch titles. When it was shared via Twitter, we were told that the focus would indeed be on Splatoon 2 and ARMS, which are both due to release very soon, as Spring and Summer games. It was also shared that along with the Nintendo Switch, there was also to be Nintendo 3DS game coverage, as well.

This Nintendo Direct was fantastic, and full of details on many things known and unknown. From some smaller titles to highly anticipated titles due out through the remainder of the year, we were treated to a great variety of game experiences on the horizon (and even a couple things right away).

So as there were so many specific details throughout the entire Nintendo Direct, I will talk more on highlights and some of the points that stood out to me. In the meanwhile, below is the full video of the Nintendo Direct, in case you were unable to watch before.

The Nintendo Direct started out with the Nintendo 3DS and I really enjoyed the pace of the new information, as the details came across in more of a news feed/report with a lot to share in a small space of time. A lot of great content coming to the system throughout the rest of the year, too, so Nintendo 3DS owners have a lot to look forward to.

Some of the titles that stood out to me the most during the Nintendo 3DS portion were Hey! Pikmin due out July 28 alongside accompanying Pikmin amiibo, Miitopia set to launch in North America later this year, and then there is Team Kirby Clash Deluxe which actually is free-to-start and available right away, following the presentation.

Along with the Pikmin amiibo, a few other amiibo sets were mentioned/announced, as well. June 23 will see the release of three new Legend of Zelda series amiibo, depicting Link from the Majora’s Mask era, Twilight Princess era, and Skyward Sword era. Also, the final three remaining amiibo from the Super Smash Bros. set (as previously announced) will become available on July 21, as well as a new set of Splatoon 2-themed amiibo (Inkling Boy, Inkling Girl, and Inkling Squid form).

c9pur5ju0aaojnhFor the Nintendo Switch, the company did not hold back much in the way of forthcoming content, and that’s fantastic for the brand new console. A steady stream of new games to play, and experiences to be had, have been promised to Nintendo Switch owners since the days, week, and even months leading to its release on March 3. Now, that promise is being held by the company is a major way. Over the next few months, there will be quite a few titles releasing for the console and they all vary in genre, and should appeal to most any taste of gamer out there looking for some seriously fun gaming.

From the introduction of the new characterc9pqo2vvwaaies Min Min from ARMS, to new details in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, to the new mode coming to Splatoon 2, called Salmon Run, there are gems for everyone. We know that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe launches on April 28, in just a couple of weeks, but then Minecraft fans have something to look forward to on May 11. Shortly after that, Ultra Street Fighter 2: The Final Challengers is set to release on the 26th of May. We were finally able to get the release dates on both ARMS and Splatoon 2, June 16, and July 21, respectively.

c9psrhdumaaqldmIt was fantastic to see so much information packed into a wonderfully paced Nintendo Direct, and aside from the fact that I really enjoyed it, especially knowing that we had not really had one of this nature in quite some time, it was refreshing, to say the least. I will, however, give my additional thoughts in an upcoming post, so be on the lookout for that soon. Until then, tell me what you liked best about the Nintendo Direct.

Additional Details Keep Rolling In

Nintendo has continued to keep us updated on some of the new details in the new Splatoon 2 for the Nintendo Switch. We recently found out about a few things that will be coming to the new game this Summer, and it seems that has not ceased to be the case.

Over the last few days, Nintendo has talked more about the new  shoes in this game, which I addressed a few weeks ago. In addition to that, though, we got a bit of information on something that many veterans of the original Splatoon noticed immediately in the initial announcement trailers for Splatoon 2, the spawn point design has been changed.

We then learned of the new design for the ink tanks of the Inklings. The new designs are amazingly sleek and look to resemble sport water bottles.

Then of course, we finally learned the name of the new “little” resident of the Inklings’ world. Previously, according to the game’s lore, Judd was the sole remaining mammal in the world, but it appears that he has been joined by another.

It is wonderful to see how much promoting Nintendo is doing for their upcoming Splatoon 2. Being a new franchise that was released only 2 years ago, there is the potential to miss its window, but making sure it “stays fresh” for Nintendo fans is essential, and the company certainly knows that. Stay tuned for additional information as it becomes available!
