Nintendo Has Detailed Breath of the Wild DLC Expansion Pack 1

Breath of the Wild Hard ModePrior to the launch of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, the game’s producer, Eiji Aonuma shared that there would be a two-part DLC Expansion Pass coming for the game later in the year. More details have now been shared about the first pack that will be coming in the Summer.

In addition to several new armor pieces for Link, there will also be a few other great things, as well. These include a new “Trial of the Sword” challenge, a Hard Mode, and more.

There are 8 treasure chests placed around Hyrule containing armor themed after previous The Legend of Zelda titles. Watch for tips as to the whereabouts of these chests as you travel around Hyrule.

It was revealed early that with these two Packs,Breath of the Wild Phantom Armor there would be a definite new “dungeon” in the second one, and so we see that this first Pack has quite a few interesting modes and bonuses that can absolutely help players to keep their interest piqued going into the second Pack.

I am excited to see what these new modes bring to the heart of the game, and also to see how much more difficult the game feels with the Hard Mode. Watching the more difficult enemies become that much tougher…and regain health if they’re not dispatched quickly enough; that will be terrific for many replays.

Breath of the Wild Tingle's OutfitIt amazes me how well Nintendo has continually hit repeatedly on their latest moves with regards to software releases, specialty items, console, and even information dissemination. Over again, we are reminded that this is a great time to be a Nintendo fan; and for those of us who are longtime fans, this really is a time we’ve looked forward to experiencing again. The best thing about it is Nintendo knows that advancing this momentum is priority number one! There is no time to rest!

Have you already ordered the DLC Expansion Pass for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild? If not, do you like what you like what you’ve seen so far, and does it convince you to pick it up? If so, are you excited about what you have seen so far?

A Record Breaking Month for Nintendo

The month of March annually marks the end of Nintendo’s fiscal calendar, and last month, FY 2016 ended with the launch of a brand dedicated home gaming console for the company along with the launch of the The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild on both Wii U and Nintendo Switch. It was known for months that Nintendo intended to do all that they possibly could to make sure they had a very strong month within all of their businesses.

Within the next few days, the company will be holding their Annual Investor’s Meeting to discuss and disclose their performance. They have, however, shared some early details  on the progress of the key indicators from the month of March, and things look extremely promising. For just North America alone, the Nintendo Switch is one of the fastest-selling consoles of all time (and definitely Nintendo’s fastest selling console, ever). The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild saw the franchise’s best-ever launch months, selling more than 1.3 million units, and ever besting a 100% attach rate on the company’s brand new console. That also means that Breath of the Wild is the company’s best ever console launch title, as well.

“Nintendo always strives to offer consumers something fun, new and different,” said Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America’s President and COO. “With its various play modes and the innovative features of the Joy-Con controllers, Nintendo Switch provides unique experiences that people can take with them anywhere and share with anyone.”

One thing that I have learned, is that momentum is probably the biggest factor in business, hands-down. It is one of those things that can be all around, yet remain as elusive as most anything imaginable. Because of that, it is something that always must be nurtured, cared for, and never taken for granted. Momentum is easily maintained, but difficult to get back once it’s gone. Nintendo understands that, and appears to be acting accordingly. I look forward to hearing much more detail on Nintendo’s record-breaking results when the company has their Investor Briefing next week, April 27.

While Nintendo Switch sales are off to a record-breaking start, shipments have not yet been able to keep up with such high demand. Nintendo is working to make sure everyone who wants a system is able to buy one, and more systems are continually being shipped. In just over two weeks, the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe game will launch for Nintendo Switch on April 28 with more content than any other Mario Kart game in series history, including 48 racing tracks, new Battle modes, new characters and other additions. Competition on Nintendo Switch gets even hotter heading into summer, with the release of the ARMS game on June 16 and the Splatoon 2 game on July 21.

Do these numbers surprise you, or were you expecting this type of performance? Have you been able to contribute to the record-setting results? What other feats do you think Nintendo will accomplish in this current environment?

Bonus Session of The Making of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Released

Last week Nintendo released a 3-part series of videos featuring the creators of the phenomenally-made The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and today they released a bonus video to accompany the series. The series gave a lot of great details about the making of this amazing game.

For both the Wii U and the Nintendo Switch, players have an opportunity to experience a vast world, with sweeping vistas, easily immersive scenery and  soothing musical climates. This bonus video gives viewers some light-hearted answers to burning questions like the developers’ favorite scenes, food dishes, and characters, and the like.

If you already watched the first three parts of the series, you’ll definitely want to see this bonus video, and if you haven’t be sure to watch them, as well as the above. Nintendo is doing quite a lot to make sure their desired result of getting their IP in front of more people is realized more and more. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is going a long way toward making sure that Nintendo continues to create an incredible new era in the video game environment!

How do you like these developer videos? Which game would you like to see a Making of-series for next? Which video was your best in the entire series?

Nintendo Announces The Making of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Series

Beginning tomorrow morning, Tuesday, March 14, there will be a 3-part series detailing the making of the game that many are considering the best game ever made (if not the best in a long time). The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was initially a Wii U game expected to be released a year or two ago. Further along in the game’s development, it became a cross-platform title for both the Wii U and the Nintendo Switch.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild launched to a lot of critical acclaim, and those have played the game seem to universally agree on its praise…when they can come up for breath, that is. The game’s developers put in lots of work creating the game, and they even shared some of that detail with an audience at the Game Developers Conference earlier this month. Now, they will be sharing information in a 3-part series, and I am excited to see what they share.

The Twitter announcement above simply shares the most basic of details, but we do see that the series will feature the head of the development team, as well as Zelda series producer, Eiji Aonuma. This should be a very insightful video series, as we get to see what truly went into creating potentially the “Game of the Decade”.

Will you be tuning in to the video series in the morning, or watching later? What unexpected details are you hoping to hear shared? Are you playing The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild? If so, how are you enjoying?

Players Are Encouraged to Get to Know Princess Zelda

Over the last several days, Game Informer has been sharing lots of in-depth information, videos and interviews with regards to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. A lot of that information has bordered on spoiler-level information, but they have been given the blessing by Nintendo, so it has been 100% authorized details. Some fans have chosen to ignore any/all new information for a couple of weeks, as we lead up to the release of the game (and the Nintendo Switch, itself). Personally, I have done a lot of that, as well, but some of the latest screenshots and information caught me at a good time, and I wanted to share them, as well.

During Game Informer‘s interview with Shigeru Miyamoto and Eiji Aonuma, the two gentlemen shared some interesting news for the fans of the series. One highly intriguing thing that was shared is how they approached the character depth for Princess Zelda. The depth of her character and her range of emotions are plenty, but it is interesting to see how Aonuma-san decided to introduce her to the players.

“I think it is really important for the players to feel like they are Link,” Aonuma says. “Whether the player will feel like they are the main character is a very important element in this game, and if the player is looking at the storyline from an outsider’s perspective, then they may not feel that real connection with those characters. So that deep involvement is necessary to feel a deeper relationship with the characters. Especially when Link is growing, or the characters are growing, and can feel that growth with them, then you will feel an even closer relationship with them.”

There is a moment from the game’s most recent trailer showing a distraught Zelda throwing herself into Link’s arms as she bursts into tears. “[Laughs] I don’t want to get too deep into it, but I do want you to know that Zelda does have a lot of emotions and expressions, different kinds of expressions in this game, and for the trailer we chose one that was very extreme,” Aonuma says. “Once you start playing  Breath of the Wild, I want you to explore and see these different sides of Zelda, different emotions that she evokes.”

This approach to unveiling Princess Zelda to the players is fantastic, because it gives each player a unique means of uncovering the game. It also encourages many players to avoid “rushing” through the game, in order to gather more of the story and character personality. I am very excited to see how this game design choice plays out, and even making Zelda mad, just to see it unfold.

How do you like this new approach from the developers? Do you think this type of personality reveal will make its way into other franchises, as well? Do you expect to pick up The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild?

Nintendo Announces Breath of the Wild Expansion Pass

Nintendo has revealed that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will feature downloadable content in the form of an Expansion Pass that will be available for purchase when the game launches on March 3, and will contain 2 separate packs. This will be the first time DLC will be available for a mainline Zelda game. The Expansion Pass will be available on both the Wii U and Nintendo Switch.

Starting when the game launches on March 3, players will be able to purchase an Expansion Pass for $19.99, granting access to two new sets of downloadable content for the game when they become available later this year. Immediately upon pre-purchase or purchase of the Expansion Pass, three new treasure chests will appear in the game’s Great Plateau area. One of these treasure chests will contain a shirt with a Nintendo Switch logo that Link can wear during his adventure, exclusive to the Expansion Pass. The other two will deliver useful items. The first content pack is scheduled to launch this summer, and will include the addition of a Cave of Trials challenge, a new hard mode and a new feature for the in-game map. The second content pack will launch in Holiday 2017, and adds new challenges that will let players enjoy a new dungeon and a new original story. The Expansion Pass will be available for both the Nintendo Switch and Wii U versions of the game and are identical. Content packs cannot be purchased individually.

So, as for the contents of the DLC, we have to wait until it is at least closer to release to know full-fledged what it entails, but I would venture to guess that keeping with traditional Nintendo fashion, there will be much more surprise than anything. One thing I do feel is necessary however, is caution where skepticism is concerned. Unfortunately, this is not addressing an issue before it becomes one…it has already started.

There are those people who are already calling the DLC for Breath of the Wild “the worst ever”. Not exactly sure how that can be the case, especially since we do not yet know all of the details about the content of the Expansion Pass. Now, I will preface this by saying, I have never been a big fan of DLC in pretty much any form, but there have been instances where I feel it has been done perfectly well…and that was done by Nintendo. The add-on content for Mario Kart 8 was one such instance of DLC done right.

The most promising part of what was shared about the Expansion Pass was the Cave of Trials, as well as the new dungeon and original story addition. I’m sure the bonus chests will get the bulk of many people’s attention to point to negative aspects of the content, but there’s nothing about them that should be taken as a reason to purchase or choose not to. Bottom line, as most DLC should be, the Expansion Pass should very well be optional, and players should not expect it to be mandatory for full enjoyment of the game.

“The world of Hyrule, which we created for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, is so large and vibrant that we wanted to offer more for players to experience within it,” said Nintendo developer Eiji Aonuma, the longtime producer of the series. “With this new Expansion Pass, we hope that fans will play, explore and enjoy the game even more.”

Do you expect to pick up the Expansion Pass? Will you be getting it immediately at launch or afterward? Are you a fan of DLC, if it’s done properly?
